NYFW Take One!
Last week our fearless leader, Shun Melson, took on the NYC streets where “Every Year The Women Of New York leave the past behind and look forward for the future. This is known as FASHION WEEK”. Yes, we know Carrie Bradshaw coined that phrase and it’s absolutely true. Invited to several shows and not able to attend them all, Shun accepted the opportunity to view a few of her faves: Jeremy Scott, Nicole Miller, and Hakan Akkaya. Let’s recap some of Shun’s favorite looks from each designer.
The creative director of Moschino and of the Jeremy Scott brand presented his 2017 A/W presentation February 10th at the Skylight Carlson Square in Manhattan. The collection, a take on satirical imagery using a mix of Elvis, Jesus, and Marilyn Monroe, sent strong political statements through the show’s fashion. Scott was quoted by NPR as saying that he intended his fashion as a “call to arms” for his followers to wake up and confront President Trump.
“I’ve been thinking a lot about how we worship celebrity, and how we have Elvis and Marilyn Monroe and Jesus all on the same playing field,” he said in the interview. “That is really the same situation what’s happened to our politics, that we have elected a celebrity.” Supermodel Gigi Hadid, opened the show in a pair of bell bottoms with images of Jesus on each hip walking side by side. The accompanying moto jacket was a mix of silver and leopard material that featured a wide belt attachment at the bottom of the hem.
Hadid’s second look, a crowd favorite, was a leather 2-pc set bedazzled with paisley, multi-colored stones. Fabulous!!
Hadid’s friend, Kyle Jenner, was spotted among a sea of celebrities that are fans of the brand.

NYC-based Nicole Miller presented a whimsical collection inspired by gypsy-grunge, lots of black, embellishments, and of course no grunge look is complete without plaid!
The sequin sheath top with princess sleeves and silk camoflauge joggers make this look gothic yet chic!
This coat is all I want for Christmas! Let me tell your fortune…

Turkish designer Hakan Akkaya also presented his cohesive edgy collection at the Skylight Clarkson Square for men and women on February 10th. The curated looks featured a range of largely-black materials; all inspired by NYC nightlife. The show was well-attended by local New York City-based celebs such as songstress Elle Varner and NYC DJ Zeke Thomas.
Designer Akkaya is pictured below with a few of his 2017 AW models.

Shun’s NYC Fashun!
In typical Shun Melson slayage, the fashion stylist left no Gucci Boot un-turned by leaving a trail of Fashun glitter on the NYC streets. As her trip was a good time, and not a long time, in 48 hours she had Instagram buzzing about her amazing NYFW looks. Let’s get into the deets!

To complete her cohesive looks, Shun rocked a neatly cut short bob, as seen on celebs such as Kelly Rowland. The updated look is shorter than the traditional bob and works with many different hair colors.
